Cold Hearted

Current mood:
Chet Faker - 1998

Just soak in the music, NOTHING else.

Canadian weather strikes again. Instead of unleashing the Goose, why not spend these last snowy days layering as much as possible. Not just a coat over a sweater, but how about a scarf over a coat over a jacket over a top - trust me it'll keep you just as warm.
I combined two major trends in this look: denim dresses and dresses over pants and skirts. As sub-trends of the big 70s wave seen everywhere from streetstyle to runways, it allows you to be stylish without screaming copy-cat. However, I still can't wait to wear this tunic by itself!

Reactions

Happy Chinese New Year! If you're born in the year of the sheep, your year should be pretty awesome. If you're not born in the year of the sheep, your year should also be pretty awesome.

Technicalities

New York Fashion Week FW'15 is on! Although I don't follow it religiously, I do get a decent peek at it from some seriously committed bloggers instagramming looks almost every hour, hence filling my feed with their trendiest selection. It's honestly crazy how much these bloggers have changed the fashion industry in so little time (say, 5-7 years?). The runway was once upon a time a place for the privileged minority of fashion elites, and now, the seats are overflowing with this new wave of  mainstream bloggers. That is because they pretty much all have a massive database of followers - an audience they can reach out to and instantly promote a brand name from the click of a button. With the rise of social media emerged a completely new way to advertise, and these bloggers are definitely killing it. It's a win-win situation. On the one hand, they advertise products and brands, hopefully credibly as they reflect their personal style along with it, and on the other hand, they get exclusive benefits, such as going backstage in the fashion shows, designer parties, and a TON of free clothes. As a matter of fact, the 'blogger queen' Chiara Ferragni is so successful that her case is currently being studied at Harvard Business School. Crazy.

Humbly below is my look, featuring my beloved white leather skirt, a cobalt blue turtleneck and a grid top. Best way to wear a somewhat revealing top during our harsh weather? Layer it under a turtleneck!

Inversions

I have been going to two Cegeps simultaneously. Some people might call me crazy, whether it's for the amount of time I spend commuting from one institution to the other or leaving all my friends the last term. They're probably right, but I don't regret it one single bit. Apart from finally getting education in English, I just end up getting the best of both worlds. One peculiar difference I noticed is the different kind of interaction between students and the teacher. French students tend to speak their mind more and develop the subject in every way they can, whereas English students, no matter how much they say, will always say it in a more orthodox and straightforward way, almost rigid. Same goes for the teachers - and the French teachers will ask questions where there is more place to speak your mind. All of this is barely noticeable and very implicit, but as an outsider with a more distant perspective, it is interesting to see how the mentalities and teaching methods differ with the language and the culture revolving around them.

It's been -28 degrees for the pas two weeks now... which means turtleneck weather! Below is a sheer one worn with a sports bra. And no the sheerness doesn't kill its purpose, au contraire, the indoors heating has never been blasting so hard, so as long as I have a warm coat, I can basically wear anything under it. Forget the shorts though. I've been craving some major monochrome since this summer, but now I tend to add a pop of colour or mix in neutrals with it.

Pêle-Mêle

When you spend four days in a row at the McGill library until 2 a.m. for a Calculus exam even though you've been listening in class the whole year and still stress your life out, you know it's not for you. At least it went well?

Gotta clear my mind a little.

Here is a jumble of pictures, events and inspiration.

My first feature ever on Newlook! Casually posing next to Alexa Chung.

Happily attended Spoiler Magazine's launch #4 at Luwan bar. With Dahye, William, and his nice friend.

Whowhatwear posted one of my favorite posts yet, displaying current trend tips through the timeless archives of Vogue magazine.

Def wearing this on NYE.
And finally, a little #tbt with the rest of the pictures for my shoot with American Apparel a year ago.

Enjoy!

All White Errrthang

Wearing sky high is definitely NOT my thing. But hey, I just did.
All bleached out was huge last season, and so were liquid metals à la Altuzarra. I'm not gonna complain about the result of fusing both trends together - it felt pure yet luxurious. Not to mention that the skirt is leather. White leather.
Bonus points: the outfit matches with our beloved weather.
